World Ozone Day get arty poster
An inter-college art festival was organised to mark World Ozone Day here on Monday. The event, which was a joint effort of UT's department of environment, Government Home Science College and Yuvsatta NGO, had '32 years and healing' as its theme. College principal Sudha Katyal said the idea was to tell people more about the growing environmental problem, particularly what's happening with the ozone layer. "Over 200 students from 11 prominent colleges of Chandigarh took part in the competition which had poster and collage making, face-painting and slogan writing."
Debendra Dalai, director, department of environment, shared that the ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas, protects the Earth from the harmful portion of the rays of the sun. It has protected human health and ecosystems by limiting the harmful ultraviolet radiation from reaching the earth. Later during the day, street plays on 'Say No to Single Use of Plastics' were also organized at Stu-C area of Panjab University and village Khudda Lahora.
